VOLUNTEER
To volunteer, contact office@arts-festival.com today!
The Arts Festival wishes to express its sincere gratitude to those who worked hard to produce “Happy Valley’s annual miracle” in 2012. Your help is needed to do the same for 2013!
If you would like to give the gift of your time, and join over 400 other volunteers who help make Festival a reality - there are many opportunities for you to get involved! Call (814) 237-3682 to help with this wonderful community event.
We rely on volunteers to:
- Help guide visitors to the Festival venues from an Information Booth
- Sell Festival buttons and merchandise
- Work 'behind the scenes' in the days leading up to Festival in setup
- Work in the Festival office the week of the Festival
- Be an Artist Ambassador
Please note that on any given day there may not be openings at every volunteer position.
“The Proud, The Few, The Trash Crew” is in need of volunteers over the duration of the festival. The crew is responsible for of maintaining cleanliness of the festival zone as well as emptying the trash and recycling receptacles. This is a great opportunity for groups looking to help since it is a great team building activity and is a lot of fun. All of those volunteering for “The Crew” will receive a special collectable trash crew T-shirt.
Some lifting and walking is required of trash crew members. For those interested, please contact Bill Ryan, Trash Crew Chair at wfryan335@mac.com.
For men and women interested in the Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition, other volunteer opportunities are available. Sidewalk Sale Ambassadors are on duty throughout the Sidewalk Sale to provide assistance and information to artists. Ambassador shifts are two to three hours long, depending on the availability of the volunteer. An Ambassador is often asked to watch an Artist's booth for 15-20 minutes while the artists take a quick break so that they can grab a bite to eat or visit the rest room. Ambassadors are frequently asked for basic information regarding the festival and the State College area.
The job is very rewarding and a great way to meet artists as well as other community volunteers. Being an ambassador requires a significant amount of walking, so an average degree of physical fitness is required. Since it might involve answering questions about State College and Penn State, Ambassadors should have proficiency in English and be somewhat familiar with State College.
Those interested in getting involved should contact Duane Funk at duanefunk@msn.com and Lori Hartman lorihartman1@verizon.net for volunteer information.
