The CPFA Silent Auction to raise money to support Festival programs is now a fixture on the festival route. The auction is an unqualified success, due to the generosity of exhibitors, the able and enthusiastic leadership of festival volunteers, the shopping of hundreds of festival-goers. The Silent Auction brings a prosaic wooden storage building to downtown State College transforms it into a handsome gift gallery, like the transformation of the lowly maid Cinderella into the belle of the ball. The 2008 Silent Auction will be located in its now traditional spot on the 100 block of South Allen Street. The Silent Auction features a wide array of fine art and craft donated by Sidewalk Sale exhibitors. Many patrons use a visit to the Silent Auction as their jumping off point before heading out to check out the artists in the Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition. People see something they like in the Silent Auction and take note of whose work it is so that they are sure to stop at the artist’s booth. The proceeds of the Silent Auction help to pay for the festival, and artists have found that having a piece in the Silent Auction is a great way to bring patrons to their booths. The Silent Auction will open on Thursday, July 12, at noon. It will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Sunday hours will be from noon to 5:00 p.m.
