46th ANNUAL SIDEWALK SALE AND EXHIBITION WINNERS
46th Annual Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition Jurors Our jurors visited each exhibitor during the Festival as part of the jury process and subsequently award over $17,000 in prize money. These award winners were announced at the awards ceremony at the Allen Street Stage, Saturday, July 14, 2012. The jurors for 2012 were:
Angela Cozby is the director of the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts, presented by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City. Each year, 750,000 people attend the six-day community celebration of the visual, performing, and culinary arts. Prior to her work for Festival of the Arts, Cozby curated several exhibits at the Oklahoma State Capitol and managed the Oklahoma State Art collection.
Abram Landes is a photographer working in Alexandria, Virginia. Before opening his own studio, he previously worked as a photo editor, information technology wizard, and teaching assistant at McDonald Wildlife Photography in McClure, P. He brings a photojournalists approach to shooting events as varied as weddings and extreme sports. He earned a BFA with honors in Printmaking from Penn State in 2005.
Neil Patterson has been making pots for over thirty years. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA from Louisiana State University. He also studied at the Penland School of Crafts and at the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education in Wales. He has been an artist in residence at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia and teaches part-time at Tyler School of Art. Neil and his wife Sandi Pierantozzi Neil have taught workshops nationally; they maintain a studio in Philadelphia.
Joyce Robinson has been a curator at the Penn State’s Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State for nearly 15 years and is also an affiliate associate professor of art history at Penn State, where she teaches courses primarily in the field of African American art. During her tenure at the Palmer, Joyce has organized more than twenty exhibitions, several of which traveled to other institutions, and authored exhibition catalogues primarily in the fields of contemporary art, photography, and American art.
James Thurman is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas’ College of Visual Arts & Design, where he teaches in the metals and jewelry area. He studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Carnegie Mellon University. A prolific and highly active studio artist for more than fifteen years, his work has been included in hundreds of national and international curated and juried exhibitions as well as ten solo exhibitions in the past ten years.
